VIP took exceptional care in cleaning, repairing, and making improvements to President William McKinley’s Birthplace Memorial in Niles, Ohio, built in 1917. The project’s work scope included terra cotta and marble cleaning, tuckpointing, sealant installation, extensive roof repairs, terra cotta restoration, and carefully matched marble patching and Dutchman repairs.

A significant amount of the project took place within the ornate courtyard, where the drainage system was renovated, a new concrete base was poured, and new marble pavers of impressive sizes, shapes, and configurations were meticulously installed.

The repairs in the courtyard were completed while maintaining public access to the library and museum. VIP’s solution to this challenge was to enclose the courtyard area completely and build a special ramp on the front stairs to allow our excavation machinery access to the area without damaging existing marble and plaza area.

VIP is honored to have had the opportunity to preserve and beautify this impressive national monument.
